So here’s the deal, I’ve been working on and off in media for…well – if I’m honest, over – well over 15 years. Egads. Dating myself (not as in dating a person – but DATING – as in no amount of Oil of Olay can change the fact I’m in my mid thirties).
I decided – some time ago, that something was missing in the world and after a lot of soul seraching, I’ve determined time has come to take the plunge and dive in. Its scary, its the most money I’ve ever spent – on a business related thing (or myself for that matter) and its risky… but I”m jumping in with both feet. I’ll keep you posted what’s up but for now, all I can say is… I’m excited.
Today – I heard a great talk given by a speaker at the Howard County Chamber of commerce, honestly – when I was first approached to attend I pooh-poohed the thing, then… once there – I realized that it was a good vibe.
The speaker – was phenomenal.
She gave ten tips for success. I can’t remember them all but in the interim of getting the whole list… here’s what I remember…
1. Be On Purpose (Ginny Robertson – were you in the room?)
2. Be Strategic
3. Have a good circle of influence (if there ever was a time to weed out the body snatchers – this is it).
4. Have an unequivocable 30 day “absolute must achieve goal”.
5. Be personable and present yourself well.
6. Learn something you don’t know.
7. Fake it till you make it – properly.
8. Help others.
9. don’t remember -
10. don’t remember -
But it was all very, very, good.
Made me wish the world had more opportunities for good speakers like that.
Also – as I come upon the eve of 3 years of wining and dining and making a difference – I can’t help but remember that had I not taken a very big risk some time ago – that I wouldn’t have come this far.
As I prepare to take a bigger one – the deep breath I’m taking before I jump is bigger too.
Have you ever had a big risk?????????
